Finishing Touch Introduces New Adhesive Product

We are so happy with this product that we want all our customers to have it! After five years using the DAP Touch’n’Seal system exclusively we, at The Finishing Touch, have concluded it is the only polyurethane foam product we recommend for our decorative architectural mouldings. It will be available for sale in November through The Finishing Touch and we are currently taking orders.

And why do we recommend DAP Touch’n’Seal? It’s the fastest moulding install method available with a drying and full grab time of only 3-5 mins (depending on humidity levels). Compared to most other polyurethane foam based products, which take 10 mins or more to dry, this is great news for builders where time means money.  And the other alternative, tile adhesive based powders are not really in the race, they are so messy to prepare and take much longer to set.

Touch’n’Seal is versatile too. It can be used for polystyrene foam cladding walls and, because it’s fire rated, it can be used as a gap filler around cables and pipes on building sites. With so many applications it’s a handy system to have on hand, able to be used on wood, masonry, insulating foam boards, metal, plastics and sheetrock.

The system comprises 3 items – Touch ‘n Seal Gun Foam II polyurethane foam, a high-performance, one component, approved Type V Residential Fireblock sealant. Sharpshooter-D Applicator Gun, specially suited for use with Touch ‘n Seal® gun foam products and is the correct one for proper application of the adhesive on architectural mouldings.

And when you’re done Poly Foam Cleaner easily cleans up any foam from hands, tools and applicator guns, dissolving any uncured polyurethane foam. It is important to use this cleaner as it’s  the only cleaner designed for the Sharpshooter –D Applicator Gun, keeping it thoroughly clean so it continues to perform.

As there will be limited supply and this is a popular system, we advise you get your orders in now so you can be sure to receive the DAP Touch’n’Seal system when it becomes available for sale in November.  Contact us to place your order.

Retail House Building In Expansion Mode

In the month of June it was pleasing to note that the national construction industry expanded for a fifth consecutive month. The Australian Industry Group/Housing Industry Association Australian Performance of Construction Index (Australian PCI®) fell slightly by 0.7 points to 56.0. Readings above 50 indicate expansion in activity, the greater the number above 50 indicating the strength of the increase.

Residential house builders will be delighted to know that across the four construction sub-sectors, house building rebounded strongly in June to 59.0 (up 13.4 points). However, activity in the more volatile apartment building sub-sector weakened significantly (down 20.2 points to 48.3). Reports from residential builders to the Australian PCI were generally positive in their assessment of house building activity, citing stronger new orders.

Master Builders Boost Australian Made

A new partnership between the Australian Made Campaign and Master Builders Australia aims to boost exports and the use of locally made products by the building and construction sectors.

An initiative by the Australian Made Campaign in partnership with Master Builders Australia will encourage building and construction firms to source Australian-made goods. Australian Made Campaign Chief Executive, Ian Harrison, stated that Australian-made often translated to better quality and durability adding “Australia’s extremely stringent quality and safety manufacturing standards have helped establish our reputation for well-made products, that last.”.

The majority of custom made and bespoke decorative mouldings made by the Finishing Touch for the local building trade are made here in Australia. Their high quality decorative mouldings carry a guarantee and sound reputation for lasting without cracking or warping.

Buildings of The Future New Design Approaches

“The 3D printer is significantly disrupting the traditional design role held by the structural engineer but, at the same time, presents exciting new opportunities in how building designers will create, relocate and shape buildings of the future,” said Peter Greaves, Aurecon’s Buildings of the Future Leader. In Aurecon’s white paper ‘Buildings of the Future: science fiction or science fact?’ inspired by interviews with a broad group of professionals across the built environment who were asked to imagine how buildings of the future may look and how they may be created, 3D printers were identified as a major disruptor.

The paper reports that new design approaches are being fuelled by the use of new, flexible construction materials, including composite materials, additive manufacturing concrete, solar polymers and carbon fibre balsa. The traditional architectural limitations of size, weight and shape that the building and construction industry is currently working within is about to change dramatically.

One of the areas of building in which this change is already happening is in the manufacture of decorative mouldings. Innovative companies, such as the Finishing Touch, are using new materials to produce lightweight decorative mouldings that look exactly the same as the traditional building materials of concrete and stone. Manufactured from a high grade computer cut EPS polystyrene, triple coated with a multi-part compound reinforced with sand, the new style decorative mouldings are easier to make, take less time to manufacture and are lighter to transport, offering many savings in building costs.

As in any building it is important to ensure that the best methods, processes and quality materials are being used. Unfortunately, there are some suppliers that claim to supply a similar product, but the quality is poor and the decorative mouldings do not stay adhered after a year or two. The Finishing Touch are often contracted to replace these low quality products with Finishing Touch superior quality decorative mouldings, using a fixing process that has a 7 year warranty. As innovators in the building industry, the Finishing Touch are leaders in the supply of quality, reliable, affordable, lightweight exterior decorative mouldings.
