As building continues November has kept the Finishing Touch busy fulfilling orders for their high quality decorative mouldings in Melbourne and interstate. With an easing of restrictions due to the pandemic there is an air of optimism for December and leading into 2021.

A post-modern design home being built in Doncaster has been finished with the addition of  155 metres of parapet mouldings, model # P8155, size 155mm x 120mm, 55 metres of flatband moulidng, model # DBG1003, size 100mm x 30mm and 27 metres of window sill, model #WS15, size 130 x 65mm. 54 metres of window header, model # WH1A, size 75mm x 170mm, has been used extensively on the property above the verandas and garage as well as for windows.

A grand home is being built in Narrewarren, requiring 17 round, plain columns, size 290mm diameter together with Tuscan capitals and bases, supply only from The Finishing Touch.

A house being bult in Kalinga, Queensland was supplied with 26 metres of architrave, model # WP5, size 100mm x 35mm and 36 metres of parapet, model # EP3, size 210mm x 100mm.

In Glen Waverley a post-modern home will be a striking addition to the streetscape with the addition of 7.5 metres of parapet moulding, model # P8300, sized 300mm x 235mm, 105 metres of parapet moulding, model # P8250, size 250mm x 195mm, 108 metres of stringer, model # S1R4, size 90mm x70mm, 245 metres of window architrave, model # W1100, size 100mm x 45mm and 76 metres of window sill, model # WS15, size 130mm x 65mm. Seven Georgian pier caps, size 600mm x 600mm elegantly tie the house design and fenceline together.

Australia Wide Finishing Touch Decorative Mouldings

The word has got out!  Finishing Touch decorative mouldings are easy to install, high quality and last a long time. Orders are flowing in from all around Australia.

A two storey, post-modern luxury home of 120 Squares situated on a cliff top with stunning views is being built by an owner/builder at 1690 Boneo Rd, Flinders, Victoria. He is using high quality decorative mouldings – 125 metres of flatband, model # M130, sized 120mm x 30mm and 123 metres of parapet moulding, model P8300, sized 300mm x 235mm to enhance the façade.  Whilst 70 metres of a custom made internal cornice moulding with integrated  lighting will be a feature inside.

Janke Constructions are busy building a two storey, post-modern 60 square house at 12 St. Ives Road, Toowoomba, Queensland. 39 metres of stringer, model # S1R4, sized 90mm x 70mm have been ordered from the Finishing Touch and 3.6 metres of a custom made decorative moulding for the facia of the Romeo & Juliette curved balcony is being manufactured .

Another Queensland construction at Hope Island, a suburb of the Gold Coast, is handsomely finished with architectural decorative mouldings. The 55 squares, post-modern design will feature 79 metres of eave parapet, model # M344, sized 345mm x 300mm, 77 metres of quoining, model # Q300, sized at 320mm x 30mm, 53 metres of parapet moulding, model # M258B, sized at 258mm x 190mm.

All 34 windows will be decoratively finished with 241 metres of window architraves, model # W1100, sized at 100mm x 45mm and 66 metres of window sills, model # WSR1, sized at 140mm x 210mm.

A single storey homestead at Ross Creek, had a simple order for 91.2 metres of quoining, to be cut into 2 separate lengths –  320mm high x 180mm length and 340 mm length, for a stepped effect on the corners of the homestead.

 

Decorative Columns Made Easy

Columns have long been used not only structurally, but also decoratively, and are associated with grand buildings. The Parthenon is one of the most famous examples of a colonnade of columns that create a grandiose affect to the onlooker’s eye. When columns were made from stone and then concrete they were only constructed in stately buildings, due to the cost and effort.

The humble residential home was not often decorated with grand columns at the entrance.

There has been a revolution in the construction industry in more recent times with the introduction of decorative mouldings made from a lightweight material.  These lightweight mouldings are easily transported to the building site and simply attached to the building. A far cry from the original mouldings that were mixed onsite and created by craftsmen in decorative designs. Those designs are still available but are pre-moulded and delivered. The most commonly used designs these days are simpler, but if a more complex design is desired, these can be specifically custom designed by the Finishing Touch, suppliers of lightweight decorative mouldings

The Finishing Touch are renowned suppliers of quality decorative mouldings for columns. During the construction stage a thin metal or wooden post is inserted into the building for the columns; the lightweight column mouldings are delivered in two halves and adhered around the post. Columns are available in round, fluted, square and tapered shapes.  Caps, capitals and bases are also supplied by the Finishing Touch in a variety of patterns.

These days many modern homes boast a stunning entrance featuring columns, creating a stately presence on the streetscape.

It is due to the technology of the lightweight mouldings now broadly used by builders to enhance the façade of the residential homes they construct.

Decorating French Provincial and Post-Modern House Facades

The Finishing Touch has been busy this week with planning for three properties under development.  The first project is a 60 square property of three units in Tooronga Road, Glen Iris, Post-modern in style with a peaked roof.  This build requires 91 metres of eave mouldings, model # P8300, sized 300mm x 235mm and 360 metres of window architraves, model # WDG8XY, sized 120mm x 50mm.

A larger project is for a French provincial style home of sixty squares in Canterbury designed by a leading Australian Architect. Decorative mouldings are all to a proprietary design with shapes and dimensions supplied by the Architect/Designer. The Finishing Touch supplies custom designed architectural mouldings and was able to meet the design brief for this build. Decorative mouldings required for the first floor are 108 metres of parapet, sized 375mm x 310mm. 108 metres of a larger parapet, sized 320mm x 845mm and 96 metres of a smaller parapet, sized 370mm x 155mm. Five arches, 1200mm in diameter add further glamour. On the ground floor 70 metres of parapet mouldings and another 70 metres of the larger parapet together with 28 individual quoining blocks, sized 600mm x 300mm, are highly decorative, as are the five columns, 3 metres high with Tuscan capitals and Doric bases. Windows are decorated with 42 metres of window architraves, sized 130mm x 80mm and 10.8 metres of window sill with a plinth reaching to the ground, all up sized at 785mm x 650mm.

Another property in Toorak is also in the French provincial style. To decorate the façade of this fifty five square house decorative mouldings for fifty metres of parapet moulding, model # P4300, sized 300mm x 285mm, twelve metres of parapet, model # P4160, sized at 160mm x 160mm, 13 metres of stringer, model # S1R4, sized at 90mm x 70mm plus 50 metres of window architraves, model # W1100, sized at 100mm x 45mm and 91 metres of quoining, Q300, sized at 320mm x 30mm. Decorative Mouldings Add To Stunning Build In Wantirna South

A fifty square property was recently built in the ever popular French provincial house style at 3 Avoca Way, Wantirna South. The Finishing Touch supplied a large number and variety of lightweight, decorative mouldings for the final touches to this stunning build.  The exterior mouldings included:

12 metres of French provincial parapet, model # P8430, sized 430mm x 335mm, 36 metres French provincial parapet, model # P8300, sized 300mm x 235mm, French provincial stringer, model # S1R4, sized 90mm x 70mm, 26.4 metres French provincial under gutter moulding, model # PE70, sized 70mm x 70mm, 50.4 metres quoining, model # Q300, sized 320mm x 320mm.

The nine windows were decorated with 98 metres of French provincial window architrave, model # WDG8XY, sized 120mm x 50mm and 24 metres of French provincial window sill, WS15, sized 130mm x 65mm. 7.2 metres of special architrave, model # W11JV with 50mm rivets created a feature for the balcony window over the front entrance, along with a 5 metre wide arch, model # W11RV, 150mm x 35mm, topped by a keystone, model # COR8162. The entrance itself is stunning with 7.2 metres of feature architrave, model # W11RV, measuring 150mm x 35mm with 35mm rivets every 400mm and featuring a keystone, model # KEY8230, sitting above the entrance and rebate mouldings, sized 120mm x 32mm dressing the columns.

A Post-modern, two storey building comprising of two units, each 34 squares, situated in Vermont is presently under development. Decorative mouldings are required for the 40 windows in total (20 each unit). The Finishing Touch can supply 308 metres of window arch, model # W1100, siized100mm x 45mm, 75 meters of window sill, model # WS6, sized 130mm x 80mm.  Other lightweight, decorative mouldings for the build include 149 metres of parapet, model # PPEP1, sized 160mm x 140mm, 125 metres of stringer, model # M22, sized 100mm x 45mm and 14.4 metres of plinth mouldings, model # DGPL400, sized 400mm x 65mm.

Forrest Hills is the suburb in which another Post-modern block of two units, 30 squares each, is also under development. It’s requirements are more modest, needing 110 metres of parapet mouldings, model # P4160, sized 160mm x 160mm and 106 metres of stringer mouldings, model # S1R4, sized 90mm x 70mm.

All these projects have or will be supplied with DAP Touch ’n’ Seal for adhering the lightweight mouldings to the buildings, with a guarantee of longevity, a must for these high value builds.

 

French Provincial Style Decorative Mouldings For Modern House Builds

A French provincial home of fifty squares situated at Gwenda Avenue, Canterbury  will look resplendent with two columns 3 metres high, each with a diameter of 400 mm, set upon Tuscan bases and topped with Tuscan capitals, all supplied by the Finishing Touch.

The decorative finish to the build and French provincial style was achieved with the addition of 72 metres of French provincial under gutter moulding, model # PE 70, sized 70mm x 70mm, 127 metres of French provincial parapet moulding, model # P4160, sized 160mm x 160mm, and for the thirty three windows 245 metres of French provincial window architraves, model # W1100, sized 100mm x 45mm and 19 metres of window sills, model # WSR15, sized 135mm x 185mm. Further decoration was added with 49 metres of quoining panel, model # Q300, 320mm x 30mm. Finishing Touch decorative mouldings can be viewed here.

The DAP system is highly recommended for adhering the lightweight decorative moulds to the building, and the Finishing Touch supplied thirteen Touch’n’Seal cans for this build.

The project for the build of a French provincial, two storey, fifty square home at 77 Maltravers Road, Ivanhoe is now progressing. This home will feature a widow’s walk.

Decorative mouldings, as shown in this blueprint,  have now been produced:

Custom made eave mouldings, sized 325mm x 250mm.

Custom made quoining panels to decorate the front of the house, sized at 630mm x 30mm.

Parapet mouldings, model # P400, sized 300mm x 285mm for the lower parapet. Another smaller parapet, model # P4160, sized 160mm x 160mm, as a stringer under the lower parapet.

Also, a parapet for the chimney, model # P8250, sized 250mm x 195mm and stringer, model # S1R4, sized 90mm x 70mm.

Under gutter moulding, model # PE70, sized 70mm x 70mm provides an attractive finish to gutters.

Window architraves, model # WP12, sized 90mm x30mm, and the seven windows upstairs have window sills that are in fact usually used as window headers, model # WH1A, sized 175mm x 170mm, demonstrating the flexibility of use of decorative moulding styles.

On the balcony above the entrance  a single arch, 2 metres wide , model # WP12, sized 90mm x 30mm provides a lovely finish.

 

Decorative Mouldings For French Provincial & Post-Modern Units

After a refreshing summer holiday break the Finishing Touch is back in full swing. Quotes for architectural decorative mouldings for new builds have been accepted and we are busy preparing orders for delivery.  Two of our clients are in Glen Iris.  The order for a post-modern building of four units in Alfred Street with a total area of 90 squares consists of:

154 metres of eave moulding, model # EP28, sized 170mm x 190mm.

A French provincial two storey home of 60 squares has been completed with the addition of the Finishing Touch decorative mouldings in Mt. Pleasant Drive, Mount Waverley. Six windows were decorated with 9.6 metres of window architrave model # W1100, sized 100mm x 45mm, 24 metres of special French provincial window architrave, model # W11RV with rivets (35mm), sized 150mm x 35mm, a single header arch, model # WH1A, 2 metres across, sized 175mm x 170mm, 3 keystones and 18 metres of window sill, model # WSR15, sized 135mm x 185mm.

The rest of the façade was beautifully finished with 17 metres of dentil mouldings, model #  P6400, sized 400mm x 380mm, 7.2 metres of dentil mouldings, model #  P6200, sized 200mm x 190mm, 92 metres French provincial parapet moulding, model #  P8300, sized 300mm x 235mm, 17 metres of French provincial stringer, model #  M22, sized 100mm x 45mm, 36 metres French provincial parapet moulding, model #   P8155, sized 155mm x 120mm, 46 metres French provincial stringer moulding model #  S6R2, sized 55mm x 27mm and 36 metres French provincial stringer, model #  S1R4, sized 90mm x 70mm.

Six windows were decorated with 22 metres of French provincial window architraves, model # W19D, sized 120mm x 55mm and 10 metres French provincial window sills, model # WSR15, sized 135mm x 185mm. 9 metres of capitals, model # GC5, sized 87mm x 80mm completed rendered, brick columns.

15 metres of French provincial parapets, custom sized to 1000mm x 400mm, 60 metres of French provincial eave parapet, model # E4300, sized 300mm x 285mm, 22 metres of French provincial stringers, model # S60, sized 60mm x 45mm and 12 metres of under gutter moulding, model # PE70, sized 70mm x 70mm completed the stylish façade.

In Viscount Drive, Doncaster a build has just been completed of a 40 square post-modern home. A grand entrance features two columns, 300 diameter by 4 metres high, model # RO300, with Tuscan capitals and Doric bases. Nine windows were decorated with 288 metres of window sills, model # WSR1, sized 140mm x 210mm and 129 metres of window architraves, model # W1100, sized 100mm x 45mm.  63 metres of French provincial parapet, model # P8200, sized 200mm x 155mm completes the façade.
